Big catch up: Jake Gyllenhaal in Toronto! Videos and interviews. Plus more...

How about this! Thirty minutes of watching and listening to Jake Gyllenhaal give a radio interview with CBC's Jian Ghomeshi. Definitely one to savour.

And there's more...

Jake has continued to be busy promoting Nightcrawler which opens in the US an UK this 31 October. Playlist have published a wonderful interview that they conducted with Jake during a 'seven-minute car ride' that took place during the Toronto Film Festival.

Here Jake talks about the research he conducted for Nightcrawler in LA: '“It’s like a Batmobile,” continues Gyllenhaal, regarding the police scanner setup the nightcrawlers he shadowed had in their car. “It’s pretty cool how they use the sensors that they use, particularly their hearing, because they have 15 scanners going on at once. The level of noise going on at one time is fascinating. They tune their senses to a very specific thing. They are like animals. It’s got a very animal Wild West quality to it. They’re outside the norm, not only are they up at night, but what they’re doing is so…you know they’re searching for tragedy and they’re racing to it at 120mph, which is not always the safest thing.”'

And there is a little piece about Demolition, which is to begin filming shortly: “It’s a movie about a guy who’s losing his wife and it basically tears apart his life as a result of what happened, but it does it in the most interesting ways, literally and figuratively,”

There is another great interview from Toronto here. I love its conclusion: '“I don’t think I go into a movie saying, ‘I’m just going to knock this one off,’ ” Gyllenhaal says. “I go, ‘I know this is going to change me.’ And I don’t want to do it if it’s not.”'

During the Toronto Festival, Jake attended the gala of Denzel Washington's The Equalizer, producing some great photo opportunities.

On 11 September, Jake Gyllenhaal was one of many celebrities who helped raise funds during this year's Cantor Fitzgerald Annual Charity Day in New York. Jake's mission was to help out a charity close to his heart New Eyes for the Needy. There is a great photo and message from Cantor Fitzgerald here and here there are more details about the significance of this event.

Thanks very much to IHJ for the photos in this post. And finally...

I'm off to Spain tonight for a week so I'll see you later!

Hi everyone! Blimey, this was a fun post to do - love these videos. Jake should attend a film festival at least once a month. No London appearance unfortunately...

I'm off to Spain tonight so have a wonderful week! I should be able to pop by I hope.

Jake has already started shooting Demolition on Monday, September 15th. There are pictures out there with Jake & Chris Cooper filming at WTC and tweets from the production company.

“Demolition focuses on a young investment banker who falls into an emotional disconnect after his wife dies. Deciding to tear his life apart to discover what went wrong, he becomes obsessed with the idea of destruction. But eventually he meets and befriends a single mother who helps him to turn things around.”

Hi Kate,
I hope you enjoy a wonderful time in Spain (with some sun ???). Can't wait for your interlude of Spain. Thank you so much for this post. I guess it was fun for you to do. I am still trying to catch up with all those videos. What I've been able to see yet was wonderful. I totally agree with you: Jake should attend film festivals more often. Nightcrawler will open in Germany on Nov. 13th. I keep my fingers crossed that I can watch it in a theater nearby. Have a good time everyone. Christina

Hello - a bit of delay returning back here to comment but boy it took a while to catch up on all the wonderful videos! I'm not complaining - it was all so very enjoyable - thanks for the many links Kate! I hope Spain was a joy - you must be in your glory with all the traveling you've done over the past months - yay for you!!

It hasn't been easy to keep up with all the Jake news these past few months but I've been trying...promoting a movie, making a movie, movies to be released and a Broadway play in the middle of all of it - wow!! It's all been great!

Just so you don't forget, Kate, you have an open invitation to join me for Jake's play if you find you can make it to the states in the new year (I know it's not an easily doable trip but I couldn't help but remind you that "IF" there's a way I still want you to join me)!!

Well back to the not so fun stuff in life (I'd much rather watch Jake videos - ha ha)! Hope everyone here is well. Until next time...

Lisa :-)

Anyone know when Everest is out?

Sonja said...

According to IMDb, 'Everest' will be released worldwide in September 2015.

'Nightcrawler' will be out soon! So far, Jake is getting rave reciews! :-)

@Sonja
Each release of a new Jake-movie is significant.

getting bored waiting! :-)

Oh, that should be "reviews" in my above post, of course!

Yes, each movie is significant. I'm still absolutely amazed at the countless negative customer reviews for 'Enemy' at Amazon. Most critics rated it quite highly, the general public seems to hate it. And I mean REALLY hate it. I've never seen such an overwhelmingly negative response to any of Jake's movies. And I happen to think 'Enemy' is one (or two) of Jake's finest performances... It must be me :-(

It seems he's even better in 'Nightcrawler'! Looking forward to seeing him as Lou - apart from the skinnyness, that is.

So much going on for Jake at the moment! :-)

Well, Sonja, let's face it, Jake has also done some bad movies, too. Not all of his movies are automatically to die for. For example, LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS shows a very sexy Jakey but the movie itself is ... an embarrassing piece of ****, I should say. So is THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW, a boring, far-fetched popcorn-movie, despite awfully good reviews. On the other hand there is BUBBLE BOY, which people absolutely hated when it was released in 2001. Reviews were poor, hardly did an audience find its way into the theatres and thus the movie flopped completely. Oh dear. I just love it, the cruel, dirty jokes it presents, its political UNcorrectness and the way it mocks the "American Way Of Life". And Jakey - with a boyish teenage voice - is still sooooo young, even in his underwear in the church-scene at the very end of the story.

PS: By the way, where is Kate? Has she gone amiss in Spain? Must we worry about her???

Hello! So sorry for the lack of updates. Come back from Spain and been so busy but will do an update today! With an Interlude (sorry about that ;) )

PS I love TDAT! That's the movie I fell for Jake with but I do agree about LAOD.

Back later!

Sonja said...

I also agree on LAOD, Antje! (And TDAT - and PoP) *hides*

And yes, I know they're not all as good. And I like to think I am critical of Jake's movies.

But with 'Enemy', it's just shocking. I can't tell you how many times I've read it's "the worst movie ever" - and that comes from people who admit they didn't even finish watching it. To comment on it when you haven't even seen it - that's not fair, and an insult to the filmmakers.

There, I've said it. I feel a lot better now ;-)

Hi Kate! Glad you're back!

Hello, dear Sonja!
ENEMY is bizarr indeed, and definitely not a mainstream blockbuster, but worth a watch or two. I'm still shocked about the very last seconds of the movie. They nearly "frightened" me out of the theater this spring.
And don't forget the lovely full beard ... ... ...

I have far less issues with Jake's facial hair since I saw 'Enemy', that's for sure! ;-)

He looked hot as Anthony!
